What is Japanese knotweed?
Japanese knotweed (Reynoutria japonica) is a highly invasive plant species originally from Asia. It was introduced to Europe and North America in the 19th century as an ornamental plant but has since spread widely and is now found across much of the world.
This plant is known for its rapid and aggressive growth, reaching heights of up to 10 feet. It develops an extensive underground rhizome system that can spread several metres deep and wide, allowing it to dominate areas quickly and out-compete native vegetation.

Why is Japanese knotweed a problem?
Japanese knotweed’s aggressive growth can cause significant damage to buildings, driveways, patios, and drainage systems. Its presence also disrupts local ecosystems by outcompeting native plants.
There are important legal considerations for property owners. You are responsible for preventing the plant from spreading beyond your land. Failure to manage it professionally can result in legal action or financial penalties. Untreated knotweed can also complicate property sales, as many mortgage lenders may refuse to lend, and property values can drop by up to 15%.
Managing or removing Japanese knotweed is extremely difficult without professional intervention. Attempting DIY removal can often make the problem worse.
Specialist Japanese knotweed removal services
We offer a wide range of Japanese knotweed removal services to manage small and large infestations, including long-term plans that come with insurance-backed guarantees.
No two infestations are the same, therefore we use a variety of Japanese knotweed control methods, or in some cases, a combination of methods, depending on the site’s location, the age of the infestation, and other site-specific pressures regarding timescales, costs, and ecological issues.
